{"id":7419,"date":"2025-09-19T05:47:30","date_gmt":"2025-09-19T03:47:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pangee.org\/?p=7419"},"modified":"2025-09-24T03:23:40","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T01:23:40","slug":"international-petition-for-a-charter-of-peace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pangee.org\/index.php\/2025\/09\/19\/international-petition-for-a-charter-of-peace\/","title":{"rendered":"INTERNATIONAL PETITION FOR A CHARTER OF PEACE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Published: 19 September 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Author: Civil Society \u2013 Charter of Peace Initiative<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within the framework of the <strong>80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (9\u201330 September 2025, New York)<\/strong>, we, members of civil society and peace partners, are launching a global petition to support the establishment of a dedicated study commission within the United Nations for the development of a <strong>Charter of Peace<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/pangee.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-6-1024x683.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7421\" style=\"width:638px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pangee.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-6-1024x683.png 1024w, https:\/\/pangee.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-6-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/pangee.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-6-768x513.png 768w, https:\/\/pangee.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-6-1536x1025.png 1536w, https:\/\/pangee.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-6-2048x1367.png 2048w, https:\/\/pangee.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-6-150x100.png 150w, https:\/\/pangee.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-6-450x300.png 450w, https:\/\/pangee.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-6-1200x801.png 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Founding Principles<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Charter will be based on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Non-violence as a central principle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The recognition of life as an inalienable right.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Direct contribution to Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Linkages with UN Bodies and Agencies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Charter will be connected to the work of the following entities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>General Assembly<\/strong>: universal forum for dialogue and decision-making.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>ECOSOC<\/strong>: bridge between the UN and civil society.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Peacebuilding Commission<\/strong>: conflict prevention and post-crisis reconstruction.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>UNODA<\/strong> (United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs): connecting peace to disarmament.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>OHCHR \/ Human Rights Council<\/strong>: anchoring peace in the right to life.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>UNESCO<\/strong>: education for peace, non-violence and intercultural dialogue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>UNDP<\/strong>: integrating peace and governance into sustainable development.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>WHO<\/strong>: linking peace, health and human security.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Submission and Follow-up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The petition will be presented to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, <strong>Mr. Ant\u00f3nio Guterres<\/strong>, at the end of September 2025. Its progress will be monitored through monthly transparent reports to engage with all relevant UN bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Independence and Universality<\/strong>: the Charter of Peace is meant to be universal. It can be adopted by States, peoples and communities, even without formal UN endorsement. This is not opposition, but proof that collective will can overcome inertia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Graz 2026 \u2014 Adoption and Calendar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This process will culminate in a major <strong>International Peace Congress in Graz, Austria<\/strong>, on <strong>31 July \u2013 1 August 2026<\/strong>, within the framework of the Universal Esperanto Congress:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>31 July 2026<\/strong>: gathering of officials, States and international organizations for the solemn act of adoption.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1 August 2026<\/strong>: dedicated to civil society, diasporas and peoples to continue collective work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Graz provides a neutral space, free from institutional deadlocks, where the Charter can be freely adopted. The UN may later recognize, integrate or complement this initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Support and Participation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Through <strong>PANGEE<\/strong> and long-standing partners, we have already gathered significant support.
